Gum diseases are common in people over 50 years of age, but can occur in younger people too. They can be hereditary and require regular monitoring.

Are your gums red, swollen and bleeding? Do you have bad breath, signs of loose teeth or see changes in their position? Such symptoms can be a sign of gingivitis (chronic marginal periodontitis). Periodontitis is a chronic inflammation of the supporting tissue around a tooth. To slow this process down, regular teeth cleaning and adequate routine regarding oral cavity care are important. If you do not treat it, such inflammation can develop into a chronic phase in which pockets between your teeth and gums get deeper. In that case, an extended cleaning during a longer period of time (six to 12 months) will be required to prevent teeth loss and serious complications.

With X-rays, measurement of gum pockets (the area between teeth and gums) and clinical photographs, we can assess the extent of gum disease and the level of the connective tissue lost.
