Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need dental floss? Is teeth whitening harmful? How to prevent bad breath? We give you the answers.

How can I book an appointment?

You can easily book an appointment directly on our website. We recommend all new patients to book a full examination with cleaning first and then to determine if there is any need for treatment.

How much does an examination at Nova Dental Clinic cost?

A full examination, together with cleaning costs, is 125 BAM. It includes examination, an X-ray and diagnostics, calculus removal and cleaning, airflow treatment for pigmentation removal and cost estimation for any further procedure. If you do not want the whole package of services, see our individual prices in the price list!

Why is a dental examination important?

A dental examination is important so that we can detect disease in the oral cavity in time and ensure healthy oral conditions.

What should I do if I have a toothache?

If you have a toothache, we recommend that you consult with us to localize the pain. Then we will see what we can do to help you.

What is airflow treatment?

Airflow treatment is a method of teeth cleaning where we use a mixture of salt and water with added flavors that are directed to your teeth under pressure. With this technique we remove the surface color change (pigmentation) that can occur from the food we eat, or from coffee, cigarettes, tea and red wine. Many people like to think of airflow as a sort of brushing their teeth under high pressure.

Do I have to get my wisdom teeth removed?

Wisdom teeth must be removed if they grow in the wrong position in the oral cavity and create problems for other teeth. They should also be removed if there are pain, inflammation or large cavities (caries). If you feel pain or discomfort with your wisdom teeth, we recommend that you book a standard examination so we can assess whether one or more wisdom teeth need to be removed.

Why is dental floss recommended?

Dental floss is an effective tool for easily removing plaque and food debris that accumulates between your teeth. Brushes do not reach the areas between the teeth and that is why it is recommended to supplement standard dental care with dental floss so that the mouth is properly cleaned. Caries most often occurs between the teeth, so regular use of dental floss reduces the risk of caries and other dental diseases.

How to get rid of bad breath?

We recommend brushing your teeth in the morning and evening, flossing, interdental brushes, oral irrigators and brushing your tongue with a tongue scraper. See our advice here!

How do I brush my teeth?

There are many different ways to brush your teeth. There are two well-known ways to do this correctly: with stroking or circular motions.

Here is our guide to brushing your teeth correctly:

Hold your brush horizontally against the gums so that it is touching them. The brush should be held at a 30-degree angle pointing towards the gumline.

Move the brush back and forth in circular motions on each tooth. The bristles on the toothbrush should stay in the same place as you move it back and forth. If it hurts, you are brushing too hard.

Do not forget to brush the chewing surface, i.e. tooth tips. Then continue from the outside towards the cheek and from the inside towards the tongue/palate.

Finish by brushing the inside of the front teeth in both jaws. It is best to hold the brush vertically.

Should I brush my tongue? If I should, how?

It is recommended to brush the tongue to get rid of bacteria and plaque that accumulate on it during the day. Certain types of bacteria can cause bad breath and good advice is to remove the coating using a tongue scraper.

Is teeth whitening dangerous?

The whitening gel you get at Nova Dental Clinic is not dangerous to use. The gel works locally, i.e. only on the teeth, and is gentle on the gums. We do not recommend using whitening gels purchased online, because there is little data on their ingredients and thus on the risk of damage to your teeth and gums.

Are light carbonated drinks as harmful as regular ones?

Both yes and no, because both types of carbonated drinks contain approximately the same amount of acid. Soda is too acidic for the teeth and can cause acid damage. Carbonated drinks with sugar can also cause caries.
