Root canal treatment

Root canal treatment is done in case of a nerve infection. In the first session, nerves and blood vessels are removed and a temporary filling put in the root canal by the dentist, while a permanent root canal filling is done at the second appointment.

Root canal treatment is a procedure done after the examination in case of a dental nerve infection. At Nova Dental Clinic, there are different prices for the full root canal treatment, depending on whether a tooth with one, two or three roots needs to be treated. The price includes: diagnostics, digital radiography (3D X-ray), mechanical instrumentation of the root canal preparation, chemical canal disinfection, final filling of the root canals, esthetic composite filling. If a multi-session treatment is required, prices do not change. If during the treatment we find that it cannot be successfully completed, the service is free of charge. In case of repairing old unsuccessful treatments done in another office, the price is 30% higher. Root canal treatment is done by a dentist. Nerves and blood vessels (pulp) within the tooth are removed before the pulp is replaced with filling material. Root canal treatment is necessary to try to avoid extraction and more serious complications.

Root canal treatment price includes:

  • X-ray if necessary (3D)
  • Anesthesia if necessary
  • Root filling material
  • Temporary filling
  • Permanent (composite) filling

If the dental nerve is dead, irritated or infected, you will require root canal treatment to preserve the tooth. Bacterial infection in a root canal can develop due to a dental nerve inflammation caused by caries cavities, deep fillings or a dental crown treatment which led to cracks that caused infection in the root canal itself.

Without treatment, bacteria will spread to the top of the root and cause bone inflammation. If that inflammation becomes visible, you will see a bump (fistula) on your gums. That fistula may hurt and it is detected during your yearly dental checkup.

Root canals are cleaned to ensure the infection is gone. When this is done, the filling material is used to replace the nerve with new material, which is called definitive root canal filling. This procedure can be completed in one visit, but sometimes two or more visits are necessary. In case of a complicated root filling, several visits are needed to ensure a thorough result.

When the root is completely filled, a temporary filling is placed on it to isolate it from bacteria. If a tooth is asymptomatic, it is restored to its natural shape, either with a composite or a porcelain/crown.
